The Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington Medical Center recently established a new center to be dedicated to microbiome research, the Center for Microbiome Sciences & Therapeutics (CMiST).  Our aim is to build a dynamic and multi-faceted center that mirrors the nature of this growing field of research.

What

With our inaugural symposium, "Community & Connectivity in the Microbiome," we hope to bring together accomplished and forward-thinking researchers from a variety of backgrounds who have expertise in their respective fields and offer a unique program that reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the microbiome itself.  This symposium is geared toward scientists, clinical researchers, postdocs, trainees and laboratory staff, with the purpose of sharing data and ideas, fostering discussion and collaboration, and continuing to grow and strengthen the microbiome community here at the University of Washington and beyond.

Our vision is to be the foremost leader in microbiome research throughout the Pacific Northwest region known for our thoughtful collaborations, our unique approach to experimental design and our dedication to educating the community about the importance of the microbiome in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  As such, we hope our inaugural symposium will set the stage for further outreach programs for researchers and the public alike.
